Clovis, Calif. - The calendar of Charlie Keyan Armenian Community School parents and students was very full in December. The Christmas Hantes was held at First Armenian Presbyterian Church. CKACS thanked Rev. M. Melkonian and their Board for inviting them to hold this event in their church social hall.

Over 200 parents and friends enjoyed the joyous Christmas poems and songs sung by the student choir directed by Ms. Shoghig Papoyan. The CKACS Band under the direction of Mr. Danny Mendoza also played holiday selections. A dramatization of one of the episodes in Hagop Baronian's Abisoghom Agha was directed by Margarit Dumanyan. To end the evening ‘Gahghant Baba' gave each student a gift.

On the December 23 a memorable event was cosponsored with California State University, Fresno. The event chaired by Hrair Messerlian was the ‘homecoming' of Raffi Hovannisian, member of parliament of the Republic of Armenia and a Fresnan. A capacity crowd eagerly listened to his words on his motivation to be in Armenia and the activities of he and his family during the years they have lived there.

The 2011 year ended with over 300 community members, parents and family of CKACS ringing in the New Year by participating in a gala party held at St. Paul Armenian Church. The committee headed by Board Chairman, Dr. Vatche Wassilian, had the hall decorated for a festive event. All enjoyed delicious Armenian food prepared by AJ's restaurant, danced to the music and enjoyed bringing in the New Year.

The ‘Breakfast with the Ladies' chaired by Mrs. Anita Boghossian attracted over 250 of Valley women present at Copper River Country Club to enjoy a delicious breakfast, bid on many Silent Auction items, and have fun seeing who won the raffle prizes. There was an Armenian recitation by Mrs. Noune Khatchikian. Fashions by Eleganza and Mia Bella were modeled through the crowded room.

With the successful completion of their first semester in the 2011-2012 school year themed ‘Hye Road to Education'. Students were honored for their excellent academic progress at a special Assembly of all students, staff and parents present to congratulate them.

The students involved in the Non-Public School Spelling Bee for 2012 are Razmig Markarian, Hovig Semerjian, Careen Derkalousdian, Carina Messerlian, Sydney Boolootian, Hovig Ohanian, Elen Chobanian, Michael Mazman, and Vahae Ohanian. They competed at the Our Lady of Perpetual Help School with numerous other students.

The Winter session of the ‘After School Program' offers classes in Drama, Dance, Soccer and Homework Club offered through the dedication and enthusiasm of the Keyan teachers.

The Bertha and John Garabedian Trust has once again graciously given a generous grant to Charlie Keyan to benefit the programs and projects of the school. Students, staff and parents are very appreciative to the Trust for continuing to support our school. With community organizations and individuals such as the Garabedian Foundation giving of their financial support the school can move toward more expansive goals and projects.

The Charlie Keyan Armenian Community School appreciates the efforts of all committee chairmen/ladies and all their committee members for striving to keep the school financially stable. We are extremely pleased to see all community members working together for the united goal of keeping our school focused on being an excellent institution for our community.
